I had great fun shooting American Coots bobbing for salad at Deer Lake in Burnaby, BC, today. They are such endearingly goofy looking birds.
With today likely being the only sunny day this week, I took the opportunity to ramble Deer Lake in Burnaby, BC.
We walked all the way to Central Park at the west end of Burnaby from our place at the SE end today.
There were lots of squirrels shaking down passersby, a gorgeous Pileated Woodpecker, a hummer, and assorted waterfowl.

It was overcast with lovely light on our patrol for spawning salmon in Burnaby, BC.
As we were patrolling for spawning salmon on Byrne Creek in Burnaby, BC, today, there was a fly by of a group of Canada Geese heading west, and a Great Blue Heron heading east.
There were three Coho males fighting over one female in the lower ravine. The big wine-red bruiser kept driving off two smaller males, likely jacks.
It was fun watching this Steller’s Jay stripping bark to get at food at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby, BC, today. There were also several Eurasian Collared Doves hanging out together.
This Great Blue Heron let me get within a few meters of it as it patiently fished just of the river trail at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby, BC.
I watched this magnificent Red-tailed Hawk for nearly half an hour at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby, BC, today. At one point it dove to the ground and tried to get something in the tall grass, but came up empty-handed, er, taloned : – ).
