While we were patrolling for salmon spawning in Byrne Creek today, I noticed a couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets flitting around the fence in the spawning habitat.

Well, dunno if we’re on a first-name basis, but I’ve shot this Red-tailed Hawk, or a Red-tailed Hawk, at or near this spot in SE Burnaby, BC, a dozen or more times over the last couple of years.

I came upon an American Robin eating berries on a walk encompassing Byrne Creek Ravine Park and Taylor Park in SEÂ Burnaby, BC. Also a Northern Flicker, and still some remaining autumn colours.

Snow Geese, Hawks, Eagles, Swans at Iona Beach
I had a fun photo safari at Iona Beach Regional Park this morning.
Snow Geese were back in moderate numbers, and I also shot a Bald Eagle bathing, a Cooper’s Hawk, and some Trumpeter Swans among other birds.

We walked around Deer Lake in Burnaby today. It was pretty quiet for wildlife, but we did see one salmon carcass in Buckingham Creek, and the highlight just as we were returning to the parking lot was a Cooper’s Hawk.
I love the patterns and construction. Amazing. . . .

Merlin, Thrush, Unspawned Coho in SE Burnaby, BC
I did a quick patrol for spawning salmon on Byrne Creek in SE Burnaby, BC today. Unfortunately, I came across two Coho that had died unspawned — a female and a jack (early male).
I also saw a Varied Thrush on my way down the creek, and then a Merlin in Ron McLean Park, both confirmed by iNaturalist. I think it’s only the second time I’ve seen a Merlin.

We did a spawner patrol today on Byrne Creek in SE Burnaby, BC. Lots of downed trees on trails, and one big one down in our townhouse complex — not sure how much damage.
