I admit as an environmentalist I wonder at all the fuel burned for fun, but the Fraser is a working river, and all these folks from tugs to SAR earn a well-deserved day of fun.
Their skill and professionalism are astounding.

These Google Earth images are of the approximate area in BC (near Logan Lake) that I saw in a recent presentation. When you think of the impacts of losing all that forest cover on watersheds and downstream communities. . .

The presenter was adamant that flooding in interior communities was not mostly due to climate change as some claim, but mostly due to poor forestry practices.
When you take all the trees, there’s no transpiration of precipitation, and nothing to slow down runoff.
Yes we need forestry jobs, but this does not appear to be a good way to save either the environment or the economy.
BC Hydro approached Byrne Creek Streamkeepers to get a creek orientation.
Folks were so enthusiastic about exploring the creek and ravine today that a 15-minute site meeting turned into a two-hour ramble! 
Hydro staff are planning a watershed display and activities during the Rivers Day week in September, and BCSS volunteers will set up our booth and information display at the Hydro building, and perhaps lead a creek tour or two.

I gave it another six months, but my aging ASUS UL30A notebook computer is getting flakier. I’m the secretary for an org at which the ASUS was recently connected to a projector for 3 days of meetings, presentations, and note taking, and it barely survived, crawling along.
I’ve considered doing a fresh backup, reformatting the HD, and reinstalling everything, but I’m feeling that would just be a waste of time. It would still be a poky machine with limited screen resolution.
I got it in November 2010, so over eight years out of a notebook computer is pretty good.
I’m now vacillating between shelling out for a Lenovo machine (I’ve always liked Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad keyboards), or perhaps going for an iPad with a Smart Keyboard.
The iPad combo would be super portable, the other would have more storage, more connectivity options, etc. I want an IPS screen for photo work, which the iPad has, and which you can get on Lenovos.
Decisions, decisions.. .
UPDATE (2/18): Ended up ordering a Dell G3 8GB/1TB with FHD IPS screen for about 2/3 the price of a similarly configured Thinkpad or less than half the price of a Macbook Pro. It’ll do for me.
I was cleaning the fridge today and found we’d accumulated enough single-serve packs of soy sauce over the last year or so to amount to a full measuring cup.
Seems like such wasteful packaging. I try to remember when ordering Chinese takeout to tell them not to include any, but forget now and then. And often sushi comes in sets prepackaged with single serves. . .
This was not planned, but I just hit 10,000 Tweets within days of my 10th anniversary on Twitter.
I recall it took me several attempts to get into the flow, starting and stopping several times the first year, and then it just kept rolling.
I have no idea if this is near average, low, or high. Don’t really care, just find the nice, round 1K/year average interesting.
