We walked the forest and fields of the Historic Stewart Farm in south Surrey, BC. Lots of birds!
Anna’s Hummingbird. Of course it wouldn’t sit still but when it was momentarily enchanted by Yumi’s bright red Santa toque, I got this shot.
American Wigeon
Brown Creeper
Black-Capped Chickadee
Junco
There were at least six Common Loons in the Nicomekl River

In these tough Covid times, let’s remember that our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents went through wars, destitution, starvation, and starting new lives literally living in holes in the ground in what is now western Canada.
Too many of us have no clue about the sacrifices made by so many to get us to where we are today.
There was no telephone, for most no radio, no TV, of course no Internet, no cell phones. . .
And no grocery stores or supermarkets. So what are we all bitching about?
Cold and wet, but worth waiting as the sun went down in Fraser Foreshore Park in south Burnaby today.
It’s rewarding when you visit places and see the same animals in nearly the exact spots you’ve seen them before. I guess all creatures are creatures of habit.
I’ve seen this Red-Tailed Hawk several times now in Fraser Foreshore Park in south Burnaby, BC, each time in the same tree.
Boy it’s sure getting dark early!
Here’s the view to the west from Tylor Park in SE Burnaby, BC, on my pre-dinner walk this afternoon.
We spotted this stunning male coho on our patrol for spawning salmon today on Byrne Creek in SE #Burnaby. Unfortunately it appeared not to have spawned, for when we processed it the milt sacs appeared firm and full.
NOTE: It’s illegal to interfere with spawning salmon. Streamkeepers have training and permission to monitor returning salmon, and assess them for species, sex, size, and spawning status after they die.

We found this dead rodent near the Meadow Ave. bridge. A bit of blood at the nose, but no visible damage otherwise. Used a couple of sticks to pick it up and move it into the bush.
UPDATE: On our spawner patrol a day later, it was gone. Nature cleans up fast. I just hope this wasn’t a rodenticide case that may affect whatever ate it. . .
UPDATE2: According to the hive mind at iNaturalist this is a Brown (Norway) Rat.
Cold and wet, but lovely late afternoon light today.
It was a cold, wet day, and I didn’t expect to see much, but did shoot a few eagles at Fraser Foreshore Park in south Burnaby, BC.
Underexposed, but I like the monochromatic appearance.
