Good article on the impact of Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans budget cuts on volunteers by Mario Bartel in our new local newspaper, Freshet News.

Mario interviews my friend Kevin Ryan, president of the Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society. The society runs a hatchery and nature house, and has been doing important research into the survivability of salmon smolts after they are released. They also run tons of programs to educate schoolkids and the community about salmon and wildlife.

Kevin and I have also long been board members on the Salmon Enhancement & Habitat Advisory Board to the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans.
