We saw a Northern Rough-winged Swallow at Burnaby Lake today. I think this is only the second or third time that I’ve photographed one. Also a Brown-headed Cowbird.

Painted Turtles, Bullfrogs at Burnaby Lake
We were happy to see two small Western Painted Turtles at Burnaby Lake in Burnaby, BC, this morning. In contrast, spotting a couple of huge, invasive American Bullfrogs was concerning . . .
We reported the turtle sightings to the Coastal Painted Turtle Project.

Putin’s paranoia reaches new heights, or should that be 6-foot depths, as new Russian ban on Americans includes some dead individuals:
“Russia bans more than 900 Americans from entering the country, including President Biden and Secretary Blinken: Russia published its updated “stop list” on Saturday, banning a total of 963 American officials and figures from entering the country.
“The updated list included the majority of US senators and members of the House of Representatives, former and current government officials, journalists, military personnel, advocates, citizens, CEOs — and even a few deceased individuals.
“Longtime Arizona. Sen. John McCain and Defense Intelligence Agency Deputy Director Melissa Drisko, who both died in 2018, were included on the list. . . ”

We saw several Anna’s Hummingbirds on our south Burnaby walk this morning.

We watched them passing this bug back and forth, and when I searched online, apparently sharing of berries or bugs means romance is in the air

Hawks, Hummers, Warblers at Fraser Foreshore, Burnaby, BC
We had a long walk at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby, BC, today.
Twice we saw Red-tailed Hawks harrassed by Crows.

I took a long walk to Fraser Foreshore Park and back home today, about a 2-hour ramble, plus an extra hour for dallying here and there to take photos.
I didn’t see Bald Eagles in the nests near the river, but as I was moving along, I heard some, and saw a pair come soaring in to land near a nest.
Wilson’s Warbler — happy to see these cute, wee birds back.
Violet-green Swallows are among my favourite birds for their iridescent appearance and aerobatic skills.
