Fraser Foreshore Park Birds ‘n Beasts
I think I may have a dozen or more blog posts with this title, but here are a few highlights from today’s walk.
Yellow Warbler
Spotted Towhee
This Downy is a creature of habit. I’ve spotted a Downy pecking away at exactly the same spot on this tree several times over the last few weeks.
Cat, Squirrel Eyeball Each Other
Sora and I just had a staredown at the front door with a squirrel on the fence. That might be the squirrel’s tail way off disappearing behind the cherry tree .
Sora is strictly an indoor cat, to protect birds and wee beasts, and to protect her too. . . But she loves looking out screened windows and taking the air at the door.
Thanks, Yumi, for taking this photo!
Anna’s Hummingbird in Burnaby
Spotted this Anna’s Hummingbird on my post-lunch power walk in SE Burnaby, BC.
Making Frame For Sharpening Stone
Idle hands put to use during Covid project # 327b.
I’ve been meaning to make a frame for the sharpening stone for years. Finally did this quick ‘n dirty job today using wood scraps found in the garage.
Not pretty, but it works! Now I can put some muscle behind the blades without being concerned about fingers getting in the way, eh?
Initially I started chiseling, but quickly realized it would be way faster to make a raised holder.
Sun, Heat at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby
Today’s ramble along Fraser Foreshore Park in south Burnaby, BC. We were glad we went early because by the time we left there was not a spot left to park for blocks around. Loads of people out enjoying the sun.
The physical distancing didn’t look too bad, but there were a few large groups of picnickers. Let’s not ease up too fast, folks, please. . .
Spittlebug froth
Soaring Cormorant at Iona Beach
This cormorant passed overhead at Iona Beach Regional Park near YVR today. We were surprized because most often we seen them skimming along low over water.
Yellow-Headed Blackbird at Iona Beach
Wonderful to see a Yellow-Headed Blackbird at Iona Beach Regional Park near YVR today. But folks, please don’t leave bread out for birds to eat, it’s not healthy for them.
Swallows, Martins at Iona Beach
We spent several hours rambling the near-empty trails of Iona Beach Regional Park near YVR today. Oh yes, there were lots of people but most were at the beach area, so no issues maintaining physical distance on the trails.
