Camping at Miracle Beach on Vancouver Island
We took a day off to make a three-day weekend to camp on Vancouver Island. We camped at Miracle Beach Provincial Park. The day started off soggy, but cleared and we got the tent and tarps up before there was further precipitation.

Squamish River Seal, View
Stopped in at the Watershed Grill in Brackendale on the way to Whistler on a daytrip with a visiting cousin. Great view of the Squamish River from the restaurant, and we even spotted a seal.
Victoria BC Daytrip
Had a cousin visiting who wanted to look around Victoria, so we did a daytrip there and back. I always enjoy the ferry with spectacular views.
More South Burnaby Bush Going, Going. . .
We’ve known this is coming for years, but I was still a bit shocked to see City crews putting up these signs on my south slope ramble today. Sigh.
This will be a big hit on urban biodiversity in south Burnaby. The site is just across Byrne Park Drive to the east of Byrne Creek Ravine Park.
World Rivers Day in Burnaby
Byrne Creek Streamkeepers had our booth at World Rivers Day at the Burnaby Village Museum today. Sunny, warm, and lots of folks to talk about watersheds with.

Fall Fish Trapping on Byrne Ck in Burnaby
Volunteers did our early fall pre-spawner fish trapping today and were happy to find lots of coho smolts and cutthroat trout. All released unharmed, of course!
Streamkeepers have permission from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for such activities, and training from the Pacific Streamkeepers Federation.

Lovely day to be on the creek!
The above two photos show the general area of the site with the trap that had the most fish. Rough areas for humans to get through, but fish love the complexity and cover.
Lots of cool fungi deep in the bush!
Leftover Pizza Dough = Butter, Sugar, Walnut Rolls
I often have some dough left over when I use the breadmaker to make pizza dough, as with only two of us in the family, one medium-large pizza at a time is plenty.
So one of my mainstays for using up leftover dough is to simply roll it out very thin, spread some butter or margarine on it, sprinkle lightly with brown sugar and chopped walnuts, roll up, slice into bite sizes, bake and . . . yum!
Byrne Ck Streamkeepers at Alta Vista Picnic
Byrne Creek Streamkeepers volunteers have our watershed & salmon education booth set up at the Alta Vista Community Picnic today from 10 – 2. Come on down to this fun neighbourhood event! Corner of Royal Oak and McKee in south Burnaby.
Chicago 17 has Landed!
Got Chicago 17 (The Chicago Manual of Style) at Chapters Metrotown today! With employee card and a few $$ remaining on a couple of performance gift cards I snagged it for C$34.
