A few minutes after I started out on my Byrne Creek ravine walk in SE Burnaby, BC, this morning, I heard several crows doing an intruder alert.
I followed the noise, suspecting they were harrassing an owl or a hawk, but I had trouble spotting anything.
As I wriggled my way closer through the bush, I finally noticed a lump on the tree the crows were focused on, and eventually it became evident the lump had a ringed tail, and then this face came into focus .
What a great way to end our walk today! We rambled Fraser Foreshore Park in SE Burnaby for several hours this morning, got back to the car, drove a block and . . . Sandhill Crane.

I spotted a nesting American Robin at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby today. I took a couple of quick photos with a long telephoto lens and then backed off.
