A few minutes after I started out on my Byrne Creek ravine walk in SE Burnaby, BC, this morning, I heard several crows doing an intruder alert.
I followed the noise, suspecting they were harrassing an owl or a hawk, but I had trouble spotting anything.
As I wriggled my way closer through the bush, I finally noticed a lump on the tree the crows were focused on, and eventually it became evident the lump had a ringed tail, and then this face came into focus 
.

What a great way to end our walk today! We rambled Fraser Foreshore Park in SE Burnaby for several hours this morning, got back to the car, drove a block and . . . Sandhill Crane.
We rambled Fraser Foreshore Park in SE Burnaby, BC, for several hours. One of the highlights was watching this Northern Flicker eating ants, and possibly stealing a grub from them, too.
We enjoyed watching this European Starling using a cavity in old piling in the river off the boardwalk in New Westminster, BC.
There were several kinds of bees and lots of blossoms on the boardwalk in New Westminster. Also great to see Mason Bee boxes with full tubes.

I spotted a nesting American Robin at Fraser Foreshore Park in Burnaby today. I took a couple of quick photos with a long telephoto lens and then backed off.
One, I didn’t want to frighten it, and, two, I didn’t want to point it out to potential predators. Yes, other birds and animals will watch to see what you’re watching. . .
Also saw several musical House Finches.
All these were shot within five meters of our front door. Fun foto excercise!
There were several Barn Swallows hanging around a garden shop in south Burnaby.
